先月4月15日に発生したボストン爆発テロは、私にとって、今年で最も悲しいでき事の１つでした。一方、犯人も無事に逮捕され終焉した事は喜ばしい事でもあります。そして、ボストンに留学中のお客様や語学学校の責任者によれば、ほとんどのボスト二アン（ボストン市民の愛称）は、テロ前の普段と変わらぬ生活を送っているとの事です。

私は、事件発生の直後の４月１８日、日本経済新聞のインタビューで「（今回の事件で）何らかの影響は避けられないだろう」コメントしました。しかし、予想に反し、事件が早急に解決された結果、テロ前の影響を受ける事なく、これから出発を予定された方々の準備を進めさせて頂いております。

ボストンマラソン爆弾事件の余波の中、ボストンの街中は、増員された治安部隊の駐留する様になりました。従いまして、私を含む多くの人々は、あの悲劇の出来事以前よりも、より安心した生活を送れると思います。ボストンは、同時に、アメリカのどの大都市よりも安全か、もしくは、一番安全な街が他にあったとしても、その街と同等の安全さです。しかし、あなたも知ってのとおり、大きな街やその他のロケーションにおいて、安全というものは決して保証されるものではありません。人間の側面から、ほとんどのボスト二アン（ボストン市民の愛称）は、普段の生活を再開しており、日々の普通さに心地よさを感じています。New England School of Englishは、ここボストンのプログラムに参加する事に関して、生徒自身がベストだと感じる事を推奨している事を知って頂きたいです。私達のほとんどは、ここボストンは安全だと感じています。しかし、新しい環境下で心地よいと感じるレベルは個人で異なりますので、New England School of Englishが、その人達の心地よいレベルを判断する事はできません。従いまして、私達は、彼らが正しいと感じる事をする事を強くサポートします。

In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, there is an increased security presence throughout the city. Thus, I think most people, myself included, find Boston to be more secure than it was prior to this tragic event. Boston is also as safe as or safer than any major US city, but as we all know, safety in big cities or other locations can never be guaranteed. On the human side, most Bostonians are resuming life as normal and we take comfort in the ordinariness of our days now. Please know that NESE strongly encourages students to do what they feel is best for them in terms of joining our programs here in Boston. While most of us feel quite safe here, feeling comfortable in a new experience is a very personal decision and NESE cannot judge others’ comfort levels. Therefore, we strongly support students doing what they feel is right for them.

The bombings in Boston on April 15th affected the region – and the world – greatly. The tranquility of our peaceful, beautiful city was shattered and uncertainty ruled that week. However, the week ended with the capture and demise of both terrorists. We now understand that they worked alone, and the spirit and activity of Boston have returned stronger than ever. Our school is back to normal and celebrating the arrival of Spring and warmer temperatures! BAE hopes to welcome you to our school and our city!
